- These are some of the nicest sounding old As you will find. ULTRA THIN - it’s amazing they survived 70 years.
- Say you like Thelonious Monk, as I do. Or Art Tatum. Or Bud Powell. Or Charles Mingus.
- Now say you want some hi hats that call to mind something beautiful and soulful and emotive - like those artists and that music.
- Just go to a big box store and get some….some…some hi hats that sound NOTHING LIKE Vintage Zildjians. Whaaaa???
- For whatever reason cymbal companies have not been able to capture the tone of these over half-century-old original Zildjians….although they keep trying to.
- And keep charging over $650 for their attempts.
- Fortunately, no one needs to try to “re-create” a damn thing! This pair of 1950s ULTRA PAPER THIN 14s” hi hats just IS!
- Just create!
- ULTRA THIN 734 gram Top with a Paper Thin 746 gram Bottom. That’s VERY THIN OVER Paper THIN. And on 50s Zildjians. Gorgeous.
- Very hard to find 7 decade old paper thin Zildjians that haven’t succumbed at the end of a 2B stick and cracked over the last 70 years. But here we are!!
- DRY from decades of aging and patina. Dark and whispy. Light, very splashy, and AIRY when opened like on a Count Basie record. Light RINGO slosh when opened. This is the tone!
- Reverse them for a slightly different tone - but all vintage.
- These are the hats that launched thousands and thousands of recordings - in all different styles too.
- Light typical use/wear on the edges. Normal for ultra thin 70 year old Zildjians - Nothing that affects tone or longevity. Absolutely amazing nearly 70-year-old light golden patina.
